2015 Nigerian Music Video Awards throws up interesting matchups

The Nigerian Music Video Awards (NMVA) has made public its nominees for the 2015 award ceremony. The list has a generous amount of stars in contention for its various categories, with some of the popular videos released over the course of the year represented.

Interestingly, a few categories have artists with current or past working relationships vying for an award. And true rivalries may have emerged were the awards for music videos not songs of themselves.

YBNL Records boss Olamide is nominated for his mellow song ‘Melo Melo’ as is YBNL artist Adekunle Gold for ‘Sade’. Singer Timi Dakolo and frequent producer-partner Cobhams Asuquo are both up for awards in the R&B category. Complicating that category is Banky W’s nomination for ‘High Notes’ which was produced by Mr Asuquo.

Also, Timaya and former protégé Patoranking square up in the Best Reggae/Dancehall Video category with ‘Sanko’ and ‘My Woman’ respectively. The Best Afro Hip-Hop Video category has producer Masterkraft going up against Olamide’s ‘Awon Goons Mi’ - the former features the latter in his nominated song ‘Indomie’.
