Days after the Lagos, Nigeria leg of the Road to MAMA concerts, organiser MTV has announced a second list of artists who will be performing at the MAMA Awards in Durban 18 July. A list released earlier featured nominees Davido, Yemi Alade, Cassper Nyovest, Bucie and Diamond Platnumz.
Joining the aforementioned five are Nigerians 2face and Wizkid South Africans rapper AKA and band Black Motion, as well as Toofan from Togo. As with the first list of announced performers most of the new batch are nominees for the 2015 MAMA themselves.
Wizkid and AKA are both in contention for the Best Male award. Although not nominated for any songs or album, 2face is in contention for a MAMA award having been nominated for the Evolution award category which recognises ‘established artists who have made an indelible mark on African and global music culture’. Up against 2face in that category are countrywoman and men Asa, D’Banj and P-square; Angola’s Anselmo Ralph, South Africa’s Black Coffee and HHP, Uganda’s Chameleone, DR Congo’s Fally Ipupa and Ghana’s Samini complete the list of niminees.
Black Motion is nominated for Best Group, while Toofan has been nominated in four categories: Best Live, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Francophone.
MTV has also announced that foreign performers Young Thug and Jhene Aiko will get on stage at the award ceremony. They join the earlier announced R&B singer Ne-Yo.
