The best of SA music just got better!
Amstel is once again bringing their highly anticipated Amstel Golden Hour to the Durban Jazz Festival. This year, they have something unforgettable planned – a collaboration between South African legends, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the kings of house music, Micasa.
The Amstel Golden Hour is all about turning one hour of the country’s most loved music festivals into something truly spectacular. This is done through epic staging, lighting and sound technology, but mostly it comes down to the acts. These often consist of amazing and unexpected collaborations that Amstel puts together to celebrate the time and enjoyment that goes into making the best of South African music. On 26 December, Micasa will share the stage with Grammy award-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo for what is bound to be a truly unforgettable music experience.
Formed more than 50 years ago, Ladysmith Black Mambazo have become one of South Africa’s most prolific recording artists and have received countless accolades worldwide. “They are the perfect example of what happens when you take your time to perfect your craft and as a beer that does the same, Amstel couldn’t be prouder to be featuring them at this year’s event”, says Lance Dodgen, Amstel’s Brand Manager.
Micasa on the other hand have only been around for four years but in that time they have managed to be number one on every major South African radio and music video chart, opened for numerous international acts and have won three of the most highly coveted music awards at the SAMAs, making them a South African music sensation in their own right. Lance comments, “The fact that Micasa started out as three strangers who decided to freestyle together on a stage at a rooftop party and now, just a few years later, they are one of the hottest bands in the country, is testimony to their hard work and dedication, and it makes them a worthy partner to share the stage with a true South African legend.”
The isicathamiya and mbube vocal styles of a choral group merged with the unique urban jazz sounds of a house band, will give festival goers an hour they’ll never forget and one that is guaranteed to be the highlight of the festival.
The Amstel Golden Hour at this year’s Durban Jazz Festival will take place on Friday 26 December at the Main Music festival.
