Call for applications: new Art new Audiences (nAnA) in East Africa

East Africa Arts is the British Council’s framework for working between the East African nations and the UK. The programme connects new audiences to new art, shares skills of creative and ignites partnerships between the creative sectors of the UK and East Africa.

Speaking at the launch of the East Africa Arts grant launch held on 30 June at the British Council premises in Nairobi, Tony Reilly, the British Council Country Director in Kenya, said: "The arts help us find new ways of connecting with and understanding each other through creativity, which is why our work in the arts has always been important part."

Who can apply

The British Council works across eight art forms including Architecture, Design; fashion; film; music; dance and theatre; creative economy; cultural skills; literature; and visual arts. The nAnA programme is looking for projects that produce new art within or across these art forms. Additionally the project could also challenge these art forms.

There is no theme for nAnA; according to the organizers the only objective is to produce new art that connects to new audiences. At the least one UK and two East African countries need to be involved in the project.

The target audience for nAnA is 18 to 35 year olds.

The projects can be "match funded" and the grant will range between £2000 ($2640) and £20000 ($26400). Three to five projects will be selected for the year 2016-2017.
