Concert for Garissa terror attack victims
On Tuesday Kenyans converged in their hundreds at Uhuru Park’s Freedom Corner in the capital Nairobi for a memorial concert in honour of the 148 people who were killed by terrorists during the attack on Garissa University College two weeks ago.
The attack, which was attributed to Somali terror group, Al-Shabab, mobilized the Kenyan musicians to come together at a concert that was clouded by a somber mood as they paid tribute to their fallen country men and women.
Among the artistes who performed were Achieng Abura, Eric Wainaina, Juliani, Poet Mufasa, Idd Aziz, Mutinda, Valentine Ziki, Amos and Josh, Rabbit, Ayub Ogada, Hart the Band, Kambua, Poet Rea Wambui, Tear Drop, Jicho Pevu and the Sarabi band. The occasion was also graced by the Chief Justice, Willy Mutunga, who read a prayer, and activist Boniface Mwangi.
The artistes eulogized the dead in speeches and condolence messages, emphasizing that the departed would never be forgotten.
“As a mother of a 21-year old, I am here to represent the pain of bereaved mothers,” said singer Achieng Abura. “Let us come together and pray for those who we have truly lost.”
