One of the world's leading global ambassador's of Afrobeat, Dele Sosimi, shall take to the stage with his 14-piece Afrobeat Orchestra, at the Forge, in Camden Town, London on Saturday, 31 January 2015.
Sosimi, who was once Music Director of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's Egypt 80 Band (and indeed Musical Director of the Fela Musical, in London), shall be continuing the tradition of his Afrobeat Vibration's concert series, assisted by his musical 'brother', Japanese Afrobeat DJ, Koichi Sakai. His Afrobeat Orchestra, which features some individual stars in their own right, such as former Jamiroquai percussionist, Maurizio Ravalico, Tamar Osborne, widely regarded as one of the world's foremost Afrobeat baritone saxophonists, with a CV featuring recordings with Tony Allen, Van Morrison, Demis Roussos and Billy Ocean amongst others.
The night promises much, in terms of Sosimi's unique fare of Afrobeat, laced with a massive dose of raw funk and Sakai's eclectic mix of Afrobeat and Latin classics. The Afrobeat Vibrations concert series, has become an institution for the UK's Afrobeat-heads, right from its days, before packed audiences, at the Empowering Church venue, in Hackney (also in London). Previous guest performers have included Sahr Ngaujah, Antibalas, Gboyega Adelaja, Shingai Shoniwa and many more.
London awaits its first Afrobeat Vibrations party expectantly. Everybody say yeah, yeah!
