Anglo-Boer War Museum (Bloemfontein)

Bio

Located in Bloemfontein, South Africa, Anglo-Boer War Museum collects, curates, conserves, displays and conducts research on items relating to the Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1902. Its collection consists of approximately 35 000 historic and cultural heritage items. Founded in 1953, the museum does not only give the visitor insight into the Boer War through its collection of art, dioramas and exhibits but also brings the visitor closer to understanding the background about the which war took place. Its outside exhibitions include a steam locomotive that carried British provisions during the war, several cannons and a British blockhouse. The museum also has a vast collection of musical instruments and songs relevant to war also in the form of sheet music.

It also hosts an online database relating to POW’s, Boer Officers, Boer Artillery Name Registers, Burger Deaths and most of the above mentioned collections.

It was honoured as a national establishment on 1 April 1953.
