Benon Mugumbya

Bio

Benon Mugumbya started singing and performing as early as high school in Namasagali. It’s here that he met Elvis Kirya who later adopted a stage name Vampos. The duo joined voices right from school and launched their career as ‘Benon & Vampos’ with help from a friend, mentor and producer, Steve Jean.

Over the years, ‘Benon & Vampos’ have enjoyed enormous success with hits like ‘Nsazewo’, 'My Lady' 'Nze Naawe’, 'I know', etc. In 2006, Benon started production at Goodenuf before moving to Fenon Records. Two years later, he started his own Swangz Avenue and has gone on to become East Africa’s hit house working with the likes of Blu 3, GoodLyfe, Bebe Cool, Juliana, GNL, Mun G, Bobi Wine, Irene Namubiru, Navio, Vamposs, Michael Ross, Viboyo, Rabadaba, Michael Ross, Aziz Azion to Mention but a few. Swangz Avenue has also helped to launch artist careers with Irene Ntale as one of its latest raising star.

After bringing a new sound to East Africa as a producer and with a number of accolades including The Pam Award Producer of the Year 2010 and The Buzz Teeniez Award Beat Maker of the Year 2010, Benon released a solo project with deep, powerful, progressive, emotional and sentimental connection to the song ‘Hope’. This was the first single off the Album ‘Olunaku Olupya’ (New Day).

Benon’s debut solo project showed his musical freedom and maturity that audiences can relate and sing along to. 'Olunaku Olupya' (New Day) punctuates a blend of traditional sound with an urban finish and reflections of life in Africa.
