Bizung School of Music & Dance

Bio

The Bizung School of Music & Dance provides students in northern Ghana with the opportunity to learn about their unique cultural heritage through music education.

In May 2010, the Playing For Change Foundation opened its second music school in Tamale, Ghana, hometown of PFC band member Mohammed Alidu. Alidu is the descendant of a lineage of drummer chiefs from the North of Ghana called the Bizungs. The school offers classes in traditional music and dance in an environment adapted to the study of different instruments: percussions, xylophone, gonje, and chant. This school is the first free music school in the Northern Region of Ghana.
