Bodyslam Records

Bio

Bodyslam Records is a Zimbabwean music production house that was founded in 1990 by Hillary Chabvuta and Langton Cheya. The record label is known for its special bias towards Zimdancehall genre. It has also produced a number of hit riddims popular in the genre. It has produced music for various local artists of different orientations. It became one of the first local studios to produce notable artists and a number of riddims which include Bodyslam Riddim which featured artists such as Shinsoman, Seh Calaz and Soul Jah Luv.

In February 2014, it closed business following the parting of promoter DJ Trouble and producer PTK. The two parted ways a result of serious misunderstandings over the running of affairs at the record label. This misunderstanding resulted in the shutting down of the Highfield based studio. In November of that year, they re-opened the Highfield studio.

The studio had broadened its scope to include other genres such as sungura and gospel music. The record label was two times nominated in 2014 Zimdancehall Awards in the Riddim of the Year Best Collabo Riddim categories. In August 2014, Bodyslam Records toured the United Kingdom and performed in Luton and Birmingham. The tour included artists such as Shinsoman Killer T and Tocky Vibes. The Bodyslam riddim was the main highlight of the shows as artists performed to the beat one after the other. The record label owns clothing line called Bodyslam.
