Botswana Independence Day

Bio

Botswana Independence Day is the biggest day of festivities held in the capital city of Gaborone. The event is characterized with singing of the national anthem, "Fatshe La Rona" (Blessed Country). Local musicians are also invited to perform at this event. Botswana became independent from Great Britain on 30 September 1966. Since 1885, the region had been a British colony called the Bechuanaland Protectorate.
