Dantho Traditional Ceremony

Bio

The Dantho Traditional ceremony is celebrated to pay homage to the ancestors of the Chikunda Kingdom and pray to the Almighty God for good rains and harvest. The event is held every September. The salient features of the ceremony are performed from a small hut bearing the names namely Chikwasha, Chipukusa, Matenga, Mikungwe, Pasu, Zefa, Inasho, Clement, Mataya, Maliki, Burumu and Gwashule.

These ancestors are the ones through whom the traditional ceremony is commemorated to appeal to Almighty God to provide adquate rains, a season free from hailwind and stop crop destruction by animals.

At the event the chief receives various gifts. The event is attended by chiefs from Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Chief Chapoto of Zimbabwe and chiefs Mpasha, Bunda Bunda and Chieftainess Shikabeta attended this event.
