Bio

Harrysong (also called Mr Songz) is a Nigerian singer. Born Harrison Tare Okiri in Warri, Delta state to parents from the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria, he was raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. He was a musical director in a church in Benin City for 15 years before the switch to secular music. Upon the advice of Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo and comedian Gordons, both from the Niger-Delta, he moved to Lagos, the commercial centre of Nigeria. Mr Songz claims ‘Afro-hiphop-dancehall’ as genre. A former fisherman, he has said he would like to return to fishing someday.

Courtesy of his time as music director, he plays the drum, flute, bass, acoustic guitar and other instruments. And has written a number of songs for several Nigerian musicians. Singer Kcee’s massive hit Limpopo (2013) was penned by Harrysong. He has also worked with Darey, Paul Play and the actors Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme. He was initially signed to Questionmark Records but is now with 5Star Music. Mr Songz released his debut album, ‘Testify,’ on the former label. He is expected to release his sophomore on 5Star Music in 2015.

His song Mandela (2013), a tribute to the late South African president and activist, was the most downloaded song on the telecom platform MTN.
