Insingizi

Bio

Insingizi is a trio that hails from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. They are now based in Vienna, Austria. Its members are Ramadu, Blessings Nqo Nkomo and Vusa Mkhaya. They perform Imbube music in the Ndebele, a language used by the well-known a-cappella-choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo. On stage they offer soulful a-cappella singing, percussion and some wonderful choreography. Their music is filled with harmonious acappella singing, traditional chants, hand percussion, and superb choreography. Their songs reflect challenges faced by people today. As such, their music has a message of encouraging. They performs "Imbube"-Music in the Ndebele language, a southern African language that's also used by the well-known a-cappella-choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Now Insingizi call Vienna their home.

On stage they offer soulful a-cappella singing, percussion and some wonderful choreography. It is filled with hope, optimism and faith. A good example is their song ‘Amasango’ (heavenly gates). The song imparts an ultimate answer to the world's seemingly insoluble hindrances. They are famed for their anti AIDS song ‘Bantu-Nonke-Sugar-Daddy’. Their debut CD ‘Voices of Southern Africa’ reportedly sold more than 250 000 copies in North America and was certified gold.

On 27 January 2009, the group composed music for the documentary film Drakensberg: Barrier of Spears. The documentary film was nationally premiered that same year on the February in the US. In November 2009, the vocal group released a fourteen track capella CD, a cappella or accompanied with African drums, clapping and whistles. The CD has tracks such as ‘Lamlela ndwandwe’, ‘Londolozela’ and ‘Umendo’. On 26 March 2009, it was nominated to perform at the Babel Med World Music Forum in Marseille, France. In 2010, they won the Radio France World Music Award. The award was presented on by Marc-Olivier Dupin, head of Radio France Music at the opening ceremony of the Forum Babel Med in Marseille. In June 2014, they attended a festival of Russian, Czech, Norwegian and African songs.
