Ongea – The Eastern Africa Music Summit
Bio
Ongea – The Eastern Africa Music Summit was formerly named Kenya Music Week.
As the Kenya Music Week, the event was established in 2004 when stakeholders were concerned that music piracy was robbing the Kenya Music Industry of over KES 10 billion annually - while the fragmented industry appeared powerless to fight for its rights.
It aimed to create an accessible public forum for Industry stakeholders (i.e. musicians, producers, promoters, distributors, media, consumers, government & NGOs) to interact and produce solutions to Industry problems. It was a forum to learn, trade and showcase Kenyan music.
Starting 2016 as Ongea - The Eastern Africa Music Summit, the platform will continue to showcase the region’s rather than the country's talent to festival directors from across the world.
