Masikane

Bio

Masikane (real name Sifiso Simelane) is a Swaziland Afro-jazz artist passion for music started when he was 12 years old as a herd boy. He became a traditional music fanatic when he was 17 years and always wondered what kind of audience would listen to his traditional music. Back then, he often sang with his friends at the river. He launched his professional singing career when he was discovered by someone who heard him sing while he was at home. The person invited him to accompany him to Johannesburg where he said he would introduce him to some people in the music business. He reluctantly left with him and was in 2001 introduced to a successful group called Sabela.

The first song he wrote was the popular ‘Phela Viki’. The song won him the award. In 2007, he won the Best siSwati album at the SATMA Awards. Signed to music recording stable, Future Paradise, he has made an outstanding resume for himself.

In 2012, he shocked many when he composed a song titled ‘Song for Zahara’. In 2013, he made headlines when he made it known that he wanted to make the award winning talented singer his first wife. That same year in August, he released an Afro-jazz ten-track album titled ‘Music Ye Africa’. It is more Afro jazz and features Vele-mseni and Crax.

He has toured around Southern Africa in countries like Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho and South Africa.
