Music Crossroads Zimbabwe

Bio

Music Crossroads Zimbabwe is an organization seeking to improve self-awareness and social inclusion of young African individuals, by serving as a resource for the development of the local music infrastructure. Since birth, MC Zimbabwe has proudly launched the careers of hundreds of artists nationwide. Among these artists are: Progress Chipfumo, First Farai, Munyaradzi Munodawafa, Willom Tight, Bongo Love, Liyana and Ihawu Lesizwe, who now enjoy strong national recognition.

The main goal of the Music Crossroads Academy is to offer affordable learning opportunities to impassioned, though disadvantaged, Zimbabwean youth who wish to pursue a music career. The academy -conveniently located on Natal Road in the Belgravia area, just 5km from Harare’s Central Business District - provides musical training and serves as rehearsal space and venue for our student musicians to publicly showcase their work. In doing so, the MCA has become a "bedrock" meeting place, or second home, to countless young musicians since the academy first started just two years ago.

The academy's one-year Professional Certificate Program, based on African and African Descent Music, provide students with new and fresh course curriculums and teaching methods, internationally trained teachers and well-equipped rehearsal rooms, music studios and sound labs. The academy gives students the tools needed for pursuing a variety of careers in the creative sector, such as professional musician, teacher, technician, creative entrepreneur, and so on. The course outline includes: Body percussion, Keyboard harmony, Improvisation, Harmony, Melodic reading & writing and Rhythmic reading & writing. Complimenting these courses is a 'Main Instruments Curriculum' composed of: Bass & lead guitar, Piano, Vocals, Drums, Mbira, Percussion and Marimba. The following vital disciplines are also included in the program: Music Business, Sound Engineering, Music and Event Management.
