Bio

Namatayi Mubariki-Chipanga is a Zimbabwean female gospel musician who was born on 25 March in Livingstone, Zambia. She is married to a gospel musician Charles Chipanga, a former member of Tuku Music. She is one of the the best female percussionist in Zimbabwe’s gospel industry. In 2002, she graduated with a Diploma in Paramedics. In the same year, she did vocal training at St Georges College. She ventured in the music industry in 2002 when she joined Tanga WekwaSando. She has also joined a number of bands and musians such as Africa Revenge, Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, Mahube, Steve Dyer among many artists.

Her rise to fame was in 2003 when she joined veteran musician Oliver Mtukudzi (2003-2011). While at Tuku Music, she toured many countries and perfomed at many festivals namely Womad Canary Islan (2003), Winnipeg Folk Festival (2005), Womadrid Spain Casa De Campo (2005), African Festival of the Arts Chicago (2006), Floyd Festival (2008), Intl Nuits D’Afrique Montreal (2010), Zanzibar Intl Film Festival (2011) and HIFA Zimbabwe. Tuku Music gave her the opportunity to display her talents. While with Mtukudzi, she had the opportunity to share the stage with artists such Lucky Dube, George Benson, Awilo Longoma, Salif Keita, Papa Wemba, Joe Thomas, Baba MaaL, Habib Koite, Hugh Masekela, Auntie Dorothy Masuka, UB 40 and Thomas Mapfumo.

In June 2011, she and her husband decided to leave the band to form Chalenam Rhythms. In 2012, the band launched the Gospel Hub, an initiative that was designed to provide a forum for Christian artists to assist them to develop and present original music. In 2014, she did a solo project and released her debut album called ‘Grace Moments’. In the same year, she was nominated as one of the finalists of 2013 Women in Enterprise Awards. Apart from her project, she is a praise and worship leader who has mentored several young women by conducting vocal training in church. She also holds conferences where she educates artists on copyright law, royalties and medical life assurance for artists.
