Tamasha la Muziki wa Cigogo (Wagogo Music Festival)

Bio

Tamasha la Muziki wa Cigogo (Wagogo Music Festival) is a music event in Tanzania celebrated every year in late July where performing artists gather to celebrate.

The primary aim of each festival is cultural preservation, promotion, and education chiefly through preparation and performance. Through producing each "tamasha", the Chamwino Arts Centre works to encourage performing arts traditions, promote artists, support the knowledge and skills necessary to perform traditional arts, and increase the presence of Wagogo traditional arts as modernization envelopes communities in Chamwino District and Dodoma region.

These annual performance based festivals were founded and are organized by the director of Chamwino Arts Centre, Kedmon Mapana, and centre staff members: Nasson Mazengo, Sospeter Mapana, Rehema Chibutu and Stanley Mpuza. With the 8th Tamasha la Muziki wa Cigogo in 2016, the Wagogo Music Festival is the longest running festival of Wagogo traditional arts in Tanzania.
