Bio

Born on 27 January 1985 in Cuanza Sul, Angola, TeQuila (real name Tekla Iita) is an RnB musician based in Windhoek, Namibia. The songbird also sings Afro-pop and house music. The artist began her career featuring on Sunny Boy's single, ‘Serious’, from his 2005 debut album, ‘Young, Black en Gifted’.

The songstress began recording songs with the help of producer Stalin Kapemb. and soon released a debut single, ‘Who's Gonna Love You’. In 2006, TeQuila won the Legal Shield Winna Mariba songwriting competition. In 2008, she featured in Vixen Hangula’s film ‘Between Friends’, a film that encourages safe sex.

In 2009, TeQuila gave her vocals to South African DJ Bojo Mujo’s song ‘Tando Lwam’ for his album ‘Session 6’. Tekla and her fellow Namibian singer Lady May received an award for their appearance on the album. The artist was nominated in six categories at the 2012 Namibian Annual Music Awards, Female Artist of The Year, Album of The Year, Best RnB, Best House, Best Instrumental/Jazz and Best Afro-pop, eventually taking home five awards.
