The World Music Expo, better known as WOMEX, is an international networking platform for the world music industry. The annual five-day event comprises a bustling trade fair, showcase festival, conference and film programme, as well as festive opening and award ceremonies.
Acknowledged as the most international hub of all professional music meetings worldwide, and particularly as the most important annual gathering of the world music community, the 19th edition of WOMEX brought 2250 delegates and more than 300 artists from 100 countries together to its 2013 host city, Cardiff. Since its first edition in 1994, WOMEX has been roaming all across Europe from Berlin (1994), via Brussels (1995), Marseille (1997), Stockholm (1998), Berlin (1999 and 2000), Rotterdam (2001), Essen (2002 and 2004), Newcastle (2005), Sevilla (2003 and 2006 to 2008), Copenhagen (2009 to 2011), Thessaloniki (2012) to Cardiff (2013). In 2014, WOMEX moved to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain.
