Ghana’s Friction to perform at One Love Festival in the UK
Ghanaian reggae man Friction will be performing at the One Love Festival in the UK on 3 September.
The festival, now in its 9th edition, will take place at the Hainault Forest Country Park in London from 2 – 4 September. More than 70 bands are expected to perform at the festival which employs two stages featuring “world famous DJs, producers and live acts,” according to a statement by the organisers.
Previous performers at the One Love Festival include Third World, Julian Marley and The Twinkle Brothers. This year's line-up includes Junior Reid, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and Sister Nancy.
Friction, who is partly based in the Netherlands, will be joining these artists and others. He was a former member of the hiplife group VIP. He released Big Trouble, his debut solo album in 2002. His follow-up effort Auntie Serwaa was well-received. Ghetto Blues, his third, featured a collaboration with Samini.
“It’s a true blessing to be able to make a living from my music here in Europe,” the 'Auntie Serwaa' hitmaker said about his experience in Europe. “Not only has it taken me to so many places while providing for my family, but the most beautiful thing is to see the way the crowd is loving it, dancing, singing along, feeling happy. Many times I am invited back to the same venue, or people who saw our show invite us to perform on their wedding, or birthday party. Those are such great honours.”
Friction will be backed by his band, the Roots Drivers, during his performance at the festival.
