Melodic Reading and Writing
Girum Mezmur from the Jazzamba Music School in Ethiopia explains Melodic Reading & Writing. A marimba ensemble breaks down the various parts of an arrangement, starting with the bassline and melody separately, then together with rhythmic accompaniment. The ensemble then performs the full arrangement, with introduction, A section, B section and Coda.
All marimbas built by African Musical Instruments, Grahamstown, South Africa. Filmed at the Cape Gate MIAGI Centre for Music in Jabulani, Soweto, South Africa in September 2013 by the Global Music Campus for Music In Africa.
