Peter Okoye, one-half of the Nigerian pop duo P-Square, announced the signing of Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch, to his label, P-Classic Records. He made the announcement via his Instagram account on 13 March.
DJ Switch is a rapper and DJ with a degree in geology from University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She entered the music scene as member of Da Pulse, the winning band at the 2009 Star Quest. Thereafter, she won the only edition of Glo X Factor West Africa in 2013, netting 24 million naira ($76 000) in prize money.
That prize was supposed to come with a Sony Music deal but while speaking with Vanguard Newspapers about the silence surrounding the deal in 2015, DJ Switch said, “I also didn’t hear anything myself. I think it’s a matter that is way above me that I can’t really explain.”
DJ Switch was featured by Patoranking on his single ‘Bad Man’ in 2016. She was also part of the release of Da Quest’s debut single ‘So Tey’ before the band split up.
On 14 March, P-Classic Records released the video for her first single titled ‘Clap For Dem’. She joins Pappy J as artists signed to the record label.
