Petite Noir to dazzle Nairobi fans on Sunday

Belgian-South African singer, songwriter and record producer Petite Noir will be the headline DJ at this year’s second edition of Thrift Social in Nairobi on Sunday 5 March.

The Cape Town-based artist, who won a South Africa Music Award (SAMA) for best alternative album last year, will be in Kenya for the first time.

He will curate music for the event, themed ‘Clothes Swap Edition’, alongside Kenya’s Taio Tripper and Nu Fvnk at The Alchemist Bar in Westlands.

Thrift Social provides young Nairobians with alternative ways to source and wear clothes. It invites vendors to not only exhibit and sell clothes but also network and tap into the changing tide that is Kenyan culture in the context of art, fashion and lifestyle. Last month it hosted the ‘Denim Edition’.

Since his recording debut in 2012, Noir, whose real name is Yannick Ilunga, has created what he describes as "noir wave" or "new wave with an African aesthetic". He has been described as one of the most exciting new artists to emerge from the thriving Cape Town electro scene.

Noir has also been announced as one of the acts to play at MTN Bushfire, Swaziland’s biggest music gathering, in May this year.

Pre-sale tickets for the Nairobi event go for 800 Kenya shillings ($7.80) and gate tickets are 1 000 Kenyan shillings. For more information visit the event’s Facebook page.
