Shatta Wale set for peace concert
Ghanaian reggae-dancehall star Shatta Wale is set to headline a concert on 13 August.
The concert is aimed at drumming up awareness for the national elections in November. Along with other persons in the public eye, Shatta Wale recognises the importance of alerting the people to the need for peaceful elections.
Tagged 'Shatta Wale for Peace' concert, the event will take place on Bantama High Street in Kumasi. It is organised with the support of Abusua FM.
Besides the 'Kakai' singer's contribution to the forthcoming elections, the Musicians’ Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has embarked on a series of programmes. One of such programmes saw the union beginning from June embark on a trek to alert the populace of the coming elections.
Places covered already include Bolgatanga and Koforidua. The trek closes on 10 August in capital Accra. The union has also released an album of songs about the need for peace.
On Facebook, Shatta Wale announced his concert. “We,” he wrote, “can never have too many voices chanting for tolerance and peace this election year and that is why the King of African Dancehall has added his voice.”
In a previous announcement of Shatta Wale’s contribution to the elections, his PR manager Chris Koney said, “It is very important to ensure that we go through this election peacefully and he as an icon with a huge following will play his part in preaching peace to everyone.”
