South Africa’s GoodLuck inks international record deal
South African electronic act GoodLuck has signed its first international music deal amid the band’s US tour. The trio signed with US recording stable Ultra Music Records and Sony B1 Recordings in Germany.
GoodLuck broke the news via Instagram: “Here is our big news... We are super excited to announce that we have just signed our first global record deal here in the USA with Ultra Music and Sony Germany.”
The group also announced the global release of the track ‘I’ve Been Thinking About You’, which will be released together with a pacey dance floor remix from Boris Smith & Girls Love DJs. ‘I’ve Been Thinking About You’ has already seen massive success in South Africa by topping the local radio charts since its release last year.
“Our first single 'Ive Been Thinking About You' will drop worldwide this Friday 31 March,” the Instagram post reads. “We have been working towards this our whole lives and have never been so excited! Thank you for being a part of our journey, we can’t wait to explore this next chapter with you guys!” the band said.
Ultra Music Records management also expressed excitement at the development.
"GoodLuck are something of a phenomenon in South Africa, having clocked up 8 chart Number 1’s in the past four years and amassed over 4 million Spotify plays of their ground-breaking, multi-instrumental sounds. ‘I’ve Been Thinking About You’ combines sublime vocals with subtle, progressive drums and piano chords – playing with offbeat rhythms and electronic samples as it gathers intensity," it said.
The signing is expected to break new ground for the band, enabling its music to find home in other countries. Most African musicians have become a darling of big music labels such as Sony. The recording stable has signed artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Ali Kiba and Leriq.
