Temi Dollface releases new single ‘Beep Beep'
Ahead of an anticipated debut album, Nigerian drama-soul exponent Temi Dollface has released the single ‘Beep Beep’.
The song, according to an official statement by the artists’s management, “leads us into Temi Dollface’s own cosmos of self-love with the help of spoken poeticisms from renowned talent, Black Magic.”
As with her back catalogue, ‘Beep Beep’ continues the artist’s contribution to moving the ‘Girl Power movement’ towards the centre of pop culture and political conversations.
Released as it is on 2 August, Temi Dollface’s birthday, ‘Beep Beep’ both celebrates the self-love of her audience as it commemorates the artist’s own day.
Although the song comes with the artist’s penchant for a pop hook rich in tongue-in-cheek irony—“I’m not one to toot my horn, but beep beep! beep eep!”—it is also evidence of songwriting skill. The song is playfully arty with words locating the heroism in all the personas a woman might embody as an accompanyinyg lyric video shows.
There is the ‘Wonder Woman’, hip-swinging Marilyn Monroe, to a ‘Mother Christmas’ figure with her very own Hundred Dollar Bill. “Beep Beep” is Drama Soul set to the depth and width of Temi’s vocals. The production, from Ikon, is both Afrobeat as taken from Fela as it is rock ‘n’ roll.
With the release of 'Beep Beep', the latter half of the year has started with activity for Ms Temi. She is scheduled to perform in London in September as a part of the GidiJand project.
