Zimbabwe's Ammara Brown to perform in the US

The Afro­pop sensation, who has made headlines in her home country, expressed excitement about her coming US trip. “I am very excited! I feel privileged that the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards organisers chose to honour and recognise my journey in the music industry,” said Ammara.

She said she would use the opportunity to show how female artistes represent the girl child in music: “I have been invited to this year’s ZAA to share my experiences in the music industry and to discuss how female artistes like me represent the girl child in music.”

The Z.A.A. ceremony will take place at Westin Stonebriar Hotel and Golf Club in Dallas, Texas. It honours the outstanding achievements of Zimbabweans based in the US, recognising their work across a number of industries that include business, music and the media. The award was founded in 2010 by Conrad Mwanza to celebrate Zimbabweans who have done themselves and fellow countrymen proud.

Ammara is daughter of music the late legend Andy Brown. She rose to fame in 2008 when she made it to the top 10 of Idols East and Southern Africa, reaching the top five before she was eliminated.

She has performed alongside local and international artistes that include Tehn Diamond, Jah Prayzah, P Square and Mi Casa. Recently, she collaborated with fellow Zimbabwean, ExQ on his music video ‘Bhachura. Her debut, earlier scheduled for October,  will be released next year, after a  promotional tour for the album. She will be touring South Africa this November and December, performing new material from the upcoming album.
