Call for applications: Creative WhatsApp residency in SA
The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) is calling on artists to apply for its Creative WhatsApp residency programme.
- Individuals living in any South African province can participate.
Artists in the following art disciplines can apply: music/sound, cinema, theatre, animation, digital and digital programming, visual arts, and spoken word.
This is the second call for applications for the Creative WhatsApp residency. The first call was aimed at writers and successful applicants from both calls will work together during the residency.
A team of creatives will work during the month of October under the mentorship of French multimedia production experts, to give life to the story of a South African writer. The participants will collaborate and mix various fields to allow them to illustrate, animate and give voice to an original story, using WhatsApp as a medium and creative tool, which will result in the creation of a WhatsApp book.
The WhatsApp book will be presented to the public in November during the Novembre Numérique, which is an international festival of digital cultures organised by the French Institute and the French cultural network abroad, in all five continents.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the residency will happen remotely and participants from any South African province can participate. The residency will cover an allowance of R5 000 and data bundles.
