Kenya: ONGEA! Music Summit to kick off on 28 September
The seventh edition of the ONGEA! Music Summit will be held online for the second year running from 28 to 30 September.
According to the organisers of the conference, held annually in Kenya’s capital Nairobi, the event will retain a digital format because the industry is still recovering from the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic. This has limited sponsorship opportunities for an in-person event.
Nevertheless, drawing from lessons of the highly successful digital edition last year, the organisers are planning a similarly enlightening and engaging 2022 summit.
The 2021 event attracted the interest and participation of experts from more than 25 countries around the world.
Running under the theme, Embracing the New Normal, this year’s event will bring together hundreds of music industry professionals from East Africa and around the world to engage through panel discussions.
The panels will function as information sharing sessions and will be led by top industry players, including producers, music publishers, record labels owners, intellectual property experts, entertainment entrepreneurs, and more.
Confirmed panel moderators are Creative Enterprise Centre managing director David Muriithi, Kenyan IP lawyer Elizabeth Lenjo, Music In Africa Foundation director Eddie Hatitye and Kenyan musician Makadem, among others.
As a not-for-profit event, ONGEA! exists to help develop a creative industry that is more professional, transparent and equitable for all, utilising music as a driver.
The conference seeks to facilitate and promote the growth of the African music industry by providing a platform to connect, share experiences and enable new partnerships.
The event is supported by the Music In Africa Foundation, ACCES, Mdundo, PHAT! Productions, Siemens Stiftung, Goethe-Institut, the German Federal Foreign Office, Airmeet and Yakwetu.
