Tanzania: Lil Ommy to launch YouTube show celebrating creatives
The Living Room is a new platform that seeks to document the lives and stories of Tanzanian creatives, including musicians. It will be launched by esteemed Times FM radio personality Lil Ommy in July 2019.
Speaking to Music In Africa, Lil Ommy said the show, which will be aired via his official YouTube channel, will carry compelling content and celebrate (among others) a wide range of musicians that would often not make it to mainstream media.
“In my new show I will be inviting the top-rated creatives for a chat in my living room, and the topics will range from music to movies, fashion and technology, among others,” he said. “Another thing, the show is valuable to artists, because they get a platform to promote their work and brand themselves as well.”
Lil Ommy says being on radio for over a decade gave him invaluable experience and knowledge, which he will use on the show to create more opportunities for the creatives and, at the same time, showcase new talent.
“I have done a lot of exclusive interviews on my radio show,” he said. “However, the show, which is called The Playlist, normally ends before I am done with all my questions.”
“So I thought of a way that I could expand the version of my show outside the station and that’s how The Living Room concept came to play. With the new show, I will have ample time with my guests, whose stories will reach a much bigger audience.”
Lil Ommy says his uploads on YouTube receive at least 30 million views. He hopes this new content will “spark deep, emotional, inspirational and daily life experience conversations,” he said.
According to Lil Ommy, some of the issues that he will be engaging the creatives on include investment opportunities, how to brand yourself for product placement, tour management and revenue opportunities in digital spaces for musicians and other artists.
