Uhuru Republic is a music collective from Italy.
The group gives a new interpretation to the traditional East African music, and merges it with electronic music. Violin, viola, electronics, voices, traditional percussions, qanuns, flutes, nyatiti, tze tze, kalimbas, dancers and video projections all together in an energetic performance that melts tradition with innovation, Europe with Africa, electronic music with ancient music.
Members include: Giulia Passera (voice, Turin) FiloQ (electronic, Genoa) Raffaele Rebaudengo (viola, Genoa), Makadem (Nairobi) and/or Msafiri Zawose (Bagamoyo) and/or Mahsin Basalama (qanun, Zanzibar) and/or DBASS (qanun, Dar Es Salaam) and/or Tryphon Evarist (voice - percussions, Zanzibar), Felician Mussa (violin, Zanzibar), Nima Ame Kombo (voice, Zanzibar), Pili Ameir Kombo (voice, Zanzibar).
