Santana is coming to South Africa
Renowned Mexican and US musician Carlos Santana is coming back to South Africa for a second time for three performances in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Santana, who became famous in the late 1960s, will stage his first performance at the Cape Town Stadium on 11 April 2018 followed by two shows at Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg on 13 and 14 April.
Santana, who was part of a band that pioneered a fusion of rock and Latin American music, will share the stage with local greats Mango Groove.
“We are proud to announce the first dates of the 2018 Divination Tour,” Santana wrote on Twitter.
Mango Groove lead singer Claire Johnston wrote on Facebook: “I am so excited about this.”
The Love Devotion Surrender guitarist, who made his debut performance in the country at the Grand Arena in Cape Town and FNB Stadium in 2014, has won 10 Grammys and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 Billboard Latin Music Awards. He is ranked No 20 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists list.
Mango Groove, the 11-piece band whose music is a fusion of pop and township marabi and kwela, will perform songs from albums such as Mango Groove, Hometalk and Another Country, among others. The ensemble is the only South African act that performed at the Celebrate Hong Kong ’97 concert.
Tickets to the Cape Town and Johannesburg concerts can be purchased via Big Concerts and Computicket.
