2019 Wah Sa Halat Awards Gambia: All the winners
For the third time in his career, Gambian act ST Da Gambian Dream, also called Brikama Boyo or ST Singhateh, has dominated the Wah Sa Halat Music Awards.
He left the 2019 ceremony, which took place at Kairaba Beach Hotel, with three awards: Rap/hip hop Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year and Event of the Year (the launch of Saluto, his last album). Other winners on the night included Jizzle, Royal Messenjah and Big Sey.
Jizzle also won three awards, his song with Hussein, 'Jalika', taking the Collaboration of the Year and Song of the Year awards. His third win came in the People’s Choice Award category. This last category was voted for by the Gambian public.
The ceremony's Lifetime Achievement Award went to the head of the Musicians Union of the Gambia, Jaliba Kuyateh. The kora player was referred to as "a legend, an icon and a musician worthy of celebration". The music video for 'Mosana' by the Nobles was awarded the Music Video of the Year accolade.
Wa Sa Halat CEO Yasally Njie-Colley congratulated the nominees and winners. "We are all winners. This is meant to celebrate, recognise and motivate our artists to work hard for glory," she said.
