Bio
Benjahmin (real names Kawsu Ceesay) is a reggae and dancehall artist from The Gambia.
His passion for music began in his childhood days. He grew up in Brikama, a dancehall loving town which is home to some of the country's finest talents like Hurricane, ST and Philanthropist. He spent most of his time watching reggae music videos and listening to dancehall music. This motivated him to develop more interest in music. He released his first single entitled ‘Welcome To My Party’ in 2006 when he was 13 years old. In 2007, he released his second single called ‘Trust Me’.
In 2010, he released four singles namely ‘Economic Depression’, ‘Better Will Come One Day’, ‘Save the Nature’ and ‘Chase Dem Away’. In 2014, he signed a two year record deal with Mandingmorry Entertainment. This saw him releasing his debut album under this recording stable. In 2015, Mandingmorry Entertainment released his 16-track debut album entitled ‘Soon or Later’. The project has HD video clips. He did a promotional tour of the album in Gambia, neighbouring countries and Europe.
Benjahmin is an ambassador of the African Artists Peace Initiative (AAPI). His single ‘Peace Rain’ earned him the title. In 2015, he was awarded the Best Reggae Dancehall Artist of Year title by Purely Gambian Entertainment Awards. In December 2015, he took part at the COPI 21 event in Paris to discuss the negative impact of climate change. In 2016, he released singles called ‘Do It Fo The Nation’ and ‘Emancipation’.
