SA: Apple Music shines spotlight on Filah Lah Lah in October
South African R&B singer and songwriter Filah Lah Lah has been featured by Apple Music as part of the streaming platform's New Artist Spotlight series for the month of October.
The announcement follows Filah Lah Lah's August release of her debut EP Filahsofy, which features ‘This Is’, ‘Hate Crowds’, ‘Never Know’, ‘Talk About’, ‘Just In Case’ and ‘Defiant’. The EP is available for streaming on all major streaming platforms.
Filahsofy was released on Kalombo Records. It is an intimate snapshot of Filah Lah Lah's life and talks about her past and current relationships.
“Apple Music has been so gracious to me and I’m so grateful,” she said. “The Apple Music New Artist Spotlight is a dream and an honour.”
Born Reabetswe Fila Ranamane, Filah Lah Lah’s passion for music is a result of her late father who went out of his way to ensure that her musical consciousness was guided by artists like Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Betty Wright and Smokey Robinson.
He music career began shortly after enrolling for an LLB degree. She released her debut single ‘Feels Like’ in late 2019. The song is a tribute to the jazz greats she grew up listening to with its tinkling piano melody overlaid with the 1990s hip hop beats.
Previous South African artists who have been featured on Apple Music’s New Artist Spotlight platform include Honeymoan, Mthunzi, Sino Msolo, Shasha, Ami Faku, Sio, Elizée and Malachi, Sho Madjozi, Simmy, Dope Saint Jude, Darkie Fiction, Dutchkid, Emerger and Thandi Ntuli.
