The Full Story
Newtonez was born Cebo Percy Manqele in Esikhawini in KwaZulu Natal South Africa. Having grown up in a township and the rural Obanjeni, the love for traditional and modern music grew tremendously. Throughout his life, Newtonez has always been fascinated by sound and how the world is represented through the ears of others. Naturally, he was drawn to sound manipulation. The interest was cultivated during his teenage years and further developed when he opted to take Music Production and Deejaying. After completing, Newtonez delved even more into his music practice, which involved township and rural ordinary life. The music, that Newtonez makes is only part of the narrative. He uses the practice of rooting his drum and percussion ensembles the traditional African way then combines it with modern synths and classical melody.
Newtonez was selected as one of the Graduates featured on uKhozi FM DJ sets (2014) again by DJTee on iGagasi FM In 2015, his music has been featured in the fresh cuts on Metro FM 2017(Ndiza which features Fisokuhle Mbonambi). He has released a single which features Bless da gentleman which was in rotation on local radio stations like iCora FM and Zululand FM.He is also featured on Sipho Ngubane's album (Channel of love deluxe edition)Newtonez works with Zululand Pride records,lives and works in Esikhawini,co-runs Zamusiq studios which offers recording services. He recently opened a record label (Afolabi Music) which assists up and coming musicians with Online distribution.
