Ugandan TV celeb to raise funds for hospitalised producer
Ugandan events host Andrew Kyamagero has organised a carwash fundraiser to assist in paying for producer Danz Kumapeesa’s hospital bills. Kumapeesa suffered a cracked skull after he was attacked at his home earlier this month. He is currently at Nsambya Hospital in Uganda’s capital Kampala.
Kyamagero will hold the fundraiser at Panamera Bar in Kampala on 1 July.
“It has come to a point that Danz Kumapeesa’s family has given up,” Kyamagero said. “They have run out of money. Unfortunately only a few people are responding to the plea by the Jahlive committee to send money to the allocated number. It’s because of this that friends like us can’t just sit there and let one of our own lose this battle. He’s a young, awesome producer who deserves a second chance and it’s up to us to give him that second chance.”
Last week, the 23-year-old producer’s employer, Jahlive Films, selected a committee that was tasked with organising a fund to settle his medical bills, which stood at $2 000. Rema Namakula is the latest musician to contribute to the fund by donating $1 117. Well-wishers are requested to send donations to +254 (0)783220197 which is registered to Asha Kaaja.
Meanwhile, Ugandan police have beefed up security at Nsambya Hospital after three people were arrested for attempting to sneak in food suspected to be poisoned into Kumapeesa’s room. “His security is paramount right now and chances are he saw those who beat him up and their biggest worry is that he will come out of this alive and mention them,” Kyamagero said. “The police have been instructed not to allow unknown visitors into his unit.”
It is believed that Kumapeesa, whose real name is Dan Mukisa, was attacked by members of the Kifeesi Goons, a notorious gang that has been terrorising residents in Kampala. It was reported that the assailants made off with valuable items after leaving Kumapeesa for dead.
Kumapeesa is known for producing such Ugandan artists as Bebe Cool, Winnie Nwagi, Irene Ntale, Fille Mutoni and Eddy Kenzo.
