Katipano Band

KATIPANO is a six-member afro fusion band from Arusha Tanzania, the group practices and performs music that carries strong influence from Tanzania traditional music which combines contemporary world music. All members have long history of performing in separate bands before finally deciding to meet and form Kaitpano in Februay 2020. The chemistry that led to formation of the band was due to the reason that 3 members were music student of Makumira University and the rest were employees of CAC (Makumira’s Cultural Art Center) project as traditional music instructors. It was letter realized that all members were passionate about exploring further various traditional styles from around Tanzania and create interesting sounds that in the brink of disappearing. They also got influenced by the music of TATUNANE one of the best Tanzanian band that was the main exporter of Tanzania music internationally in the 90s.
To date the group has managed to perform in various festivals and events including; Kwetu Nyumbani music concert, Sisi Sote Pamoja music concert, Bagamoyo Festival, Sanaa Pamoja concert organized by Nafasi Art Space and National Museum. Some members of the band have also performed at International platforms like Bayimba Music festival, Sauti za Busara music festival, Doadoa music festival & Expo, KANI Festival, JMI Festival Croatia and Amafest
