Selena Gomez joins Rema on new verson of Calm Down
Nigerian singer Rema has shared a remix of his song ‘Calm Down’, featuring a fresh verse by US popstar Selena Gomez. The song is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
‘Calm Down’ was released via Mavin Global/ Jonzing World, and coincides with Rema’s ongoing world tour in support of his debut album Rave & Roses, published back in March.
The track was first teased on 23 August, with Gomez sharing a snippet on Instagram with the caption: “An all-new version of @heisrema ‘Calm Down’ is coming 8/26 – so excited for this one!” It also arrives days after Gomez was spotted meeting with Rema backstage in Los Angeles before the Nigerian’s headline show in the city.
Co-produced by Andre Vibez and London, ‘Calm Down’ narrates the story of the first flush of love between a couple, its author revealing that it was inspired by events that led him to finding love at the time.
“It started at a party where I saw a girl who stood out from others, so I felt like ‘shooting my shot’. We spoke and danced, but her friends didn’t let me get any closer which killed the vibe. Afterwards, when they weren’t there, we stayed in touch and hit it off.”
Gomez adds to a growing list of international collaborations for Rema, who enlisted the likes of US acts Chris Brown and 6lack, as well as French singer-songwriter Yseult for Rave & Roses.
The original version of ‘Calm Down’, a focus track off Rave & Roses, currently ranks at No.57 on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart, and No.7 on Billboard US Afrobeats Songs.
Meanwhile, the Rave & Roses tour, which has already taken Rema to Zambia, Kenya, Belgium, Malta and France, among other countries, will see him in American cities, including Minneapolis, Chicago, Philadelphia, Silver Spring, New York and Cambridge throughout September.
