Nigeria: Afrobeats star Lojay shares new EP Gangster Romantic
Nigerian singer Lojay has released a new EP titled Gangster Romantic via Koratori Recordings. The seven-track project is available for streaming and download across major digital platforms.
The collection is executive produced by Anthony Egwu, and is heralded by the singles ‘Leader’, ‘Moto’ and ‘Canada’ ft. Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa.
Thematically, the project addresses a range of emotive subjects such as romance and conflict through a range of sounds and influences.
“I didn't make this project because I wanted to have hits out,” Lojay said. “I made this project because I wanted people to listen to something they can connect with and hold onto for a long time. There is a reason why I placed all of the songs where they are. I want you to have that experience in unison and just take it in and connect.”
The artist has announced that will be taking the new EP on an Australian tour starting this March.
Lojay shot to mainstream notice in 2021 with his collaboration with renowned producer Sarz on the five-track EP LV N ATTN. That project’ s focus track ‘Monalisa’ peaked at No. 3 on the Apple Music Charts, earning him a guest verse from American R&B star Chris Brown.
Apple Music last month named Lojay as its latest Africa Rising artist. The initiative seeks to empower emerging African artists by highlighting their music on the streaming service.
“Thank you Apple Music for putting a spotlight on my sound,” Lojay said. “It’s a huge honour [that] I don’t take for granted especially with all the amazing artists the continent has on display. It’s amazing to see how far my music is able to travel and how well it’s been received.”
