SA: Khuli Chana to headline One Source Live
South African rapper Khuli Chana in partnership with Absolut will seek to redefine the African arts scene through the One Source Live (OSL) concert in Johannesburg on 24 March 2018. The event, which is geared at rewriting Africa’s story, will be headlined by Khuli Chana, Sho Madjozi and creatives from Senegal and Kenya.
Inspired by the need to rewrite Africa's history, the One Source campaign began in 2016 when Absolut joined forces with Khuli Chana, Sarkodie (Ghana), Victoria Kimani (Kenya) and other African artists to produce the One Source album and video.
The event organisers said OSL was designed “to replace the dominance of curio images with a true reflection of African creativity and more images of contemporary African art”.
“It’s official! We’ve joined forces with Khuli Chana, Sho Madjozi, Trevor Stuurman, Osborne Macharia and Fabrice Monteiro to unleash Africa’s creativity,” an Absolut Facebook page post reads.
“Africa is in the midst of a creative revolution. Artists in music, fashion and art are changing the way the world sees Africa. Africa aren’t [sic] no jungle. Africa is on fire with creativity. And it’s time the world sees it too.”
Khuli Chana, who is an ambassador of the vodka brand, said: “OSL, being a platform for the growing unification of African creatives, is a perfect opportunity for me to fulfil a long-standing dream of mine to display Africa to the world in the most majestic and powerful way possible.
“This project defines what being a creative revolutionary means to me – the courage to unite in the face of all physical, cultural and political boundaries and differences as Mama Africa's offspring and make her shine, to make her proud, to make her smile.”
The ‘Tswa Daar’ hitmaker said the event was important because it would usher in a new era in the global arts sector.
“As we unite, grow and progress creatively, we influence the world and share the greatest and most effective inspiration the world has ever experienced. I'm proud to be an African leader in my own right and to be championing the advancement of African brilliance in our lifetime,” Khuli Chana said.
Absolut marketing manager Iris Le Berg said: “OSL underscores our belief that creatives are the real leaders that can rewrite and recreate the kind of change that modern Africa is poised to own.
“We are bringing these creative revolutionaries together to highlight Africa as the creative engine of the world. OSL is a movement that promotes a proud and authentic African identity by reminding people that we all come from one source.”
