Open call: Music mentorship programme in Nigeria
Applications are currently ongoing for Women In Music Nigeria’s Unlocking Potential: Women Redefining the Music Industry 2023 mentorship programme.
Women In Music Nigeria is a chapter of international non-profit Women In Music dedicated to fostering equality in the music industry through the support and advancement of women by providing knowledge, strategy and solutions to members and the greater community. It was launched in 2021, with industry experts Eony Ugorji, Chioma Onuchukwu, Stephanie Adamu, Stephney Bassey and Aibee Abidoye as committee chair members.
The new initiative offers an opportunity to amplify the journeys of women in the music industry, offering a platform for local creatives and professionals across diverse sectors to connect with experienced mentors who can guide them.
The programme spans three months, with each month focusing on a crucial aspect of the music space, specifically, talent management and brand building, marketing and distribution and entrepreneurship. The timeline is as follows:
- November: Mentees will have the chance to gain insights into cultivating and managing their artistic identity while navigating the competitive landscape of the music industry.
- January: Participants will learn strategies to effectively promote their work and navigate the intricacies of music distribution in the digital age.
- February: Mentees will explore the business side of music, gaining knowledge and skills to navigate the industry with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be actively engaged in the music industry, either as creatives (e.g. musicians, songwriters, producers) or professionals (e.g. managers, marketers, distributors).
- Successful applicants must be committed to actively participating in the programme, attending scheduled sessions and engaging with their mentors.
- Individuals applying should demonstrate a genuine passion for personal and professional growth within the music industry.
