Indi Chawla

Bio

Indi Chawla is Head of International Relations at the Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC). Born out of the Music Modernization Act, The MLC is a nonprofit organisation revolutionising the way songwriters, publishers and other rightsholders are paid for their music that is streamed and downloaded on digital platforms in the United States.  Based in London, Indi co-ordinates with international rightsholders to maximize the collection of mechanical royalties on behalf of global collective management organizations (CMOs), publishers and songwriters.
 

Indi’s impact on the international music publishing industry spans over three decades. Her career began as a Royalty Assistant at Polygram Music Publishing, marking the start of a career trajectory that propelled her to senior management positions in major and independent music publishing companies covering all aspects of rights administration.

At Warner Chappell, she led the Global Copyright Team for nearly a decade, revolutionising the company's copyright management practices by implementing highly efficient and standardised registration processes across Warner Chappell’s extensive network and played a pivotal role in launching Warner Chappell's enhanced rights management system.  Before joining The MLC, Indi was a consultant for ICE, an integrated licensing and processing hub. Her work focused on the development of the company’s groundbreaking copyright platform.

Committed to empowering songwriters worldwide, Indi conducts educational webinars and workshops, reaching creators across the globe. She is a prominent speaker at industry events like Music Ally Connect, WOMEX and the IMPF Creators Summit. Additionally, Indi actively collaborates with international organisations such as WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) to support intellectual property awareness and compensation for songwriters wherever they are based.
