Bio

Ambrose Akula Akwabi, better known as "Dunga" from Mandugu Digital Studios, is a pioneering musician, recording artist, and producer hailing from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In the early 2000s, Dunga recognized a dearth of resonant lyrical Hip Hop in Kenya, prompting him to pioneer "The Bounce" – a genre-defying sound that transcended borders, captivating audiences in Kenya and Tanzania. This trailblazing creation inspired a new generation of producers across the region.

Although "The Bounce" propelled him to prominence, Dunga refuses to let convention confine him, seeking innovative ways to shatter moulds. His artistry blends contemporary and international elements with a firm grounding in African traditions. A dedicated advocate for fostering emerging talent, Dunga passionately engages in mentoring, workshops, and elevating fellow producers.

Dunga's indelible mark on the East African music scene encompasses collaborations with esteemed artists. Noteworthy partnerships include crafting hits for Joh Makini, Chege Chigunda, Karibu Kiumeni, Mr. Blue, Galatone, and co-producing Harmonize's and Q Chilla's "My Boo Remix."

Recently, Dunga played a pivotal role in producing the Jay Rox (ZAMBIA) EP, "Poetry in Motion," alongside various tracks spanning Eastern and Southern Africa. He earned a nomination with Umoja Sounds for AFRIMA 2022's "Best Group, Band, or Duo" category.

Further amplifying his influence, Dunga has contributed to an array of significant projects including collaborations with Professor J, TMK Wanaume, Q Chilla, Mb Dawg, Lady JD, Nakaaya, Mangwea, Marble Musisi, Syd and Bobby Mapesa, Frederick Mullah, Mbithi, Jay Rox and WonderJR, among others.

He is also renowned for crafting impactful radio and TV jingles, Dunga creates ads, anthems, and jingles for notable institutions such as banks and beverage companies. Recent endeavors include the CRDB Bank Marathon Anthem and his involvement in composing the anthem for Tanzania's expansive DSTV "Zigo" campaign.endeavours.

Currently working with OngalaVerse, Dunga's efforts are towards deepening the musicality and live music experience by direct work with small groups of committed musicians and music industry development organisations.

Dunga's journey encapsulates a continuous pursuit of innovation and artistic evolution, transcending boundaries while preserving the essence of African musical heritage.
