The Ionians Chamber Orchestra (ICO) is a 30-piece orchestra ensemble of competent freelance musicians. This is a platform and job creating vehicle for aspiring young chamber orchestra musicians in South Africa.  After 30 years of the new dispensation in South Africa, we still have a lot of jobless competent orchestra musicians in South African. These players come from the three provinces: Gauteng, Northwest, and the Free State.

The ICO is a crossover orchestra that performs most music genre but mainly focusses on South African compositions with the emphasis on the authentic idioms and expressions. The orchestra aims at giving the underprivileged communities an affordable orchestra experience using the South Afrika Orchestra Songbook which is a compilation of 60 South African Choral Music compositions arranged for orchestra. This exercise also aims at promoting, exposing, and protecting our music cultural heritage and legacy, while addressing the local content issue.
