Awesome Africa hosts pan-African collaborations and workshops

The Awesome Africa International Arts Festival in the province of KwaZulu-Natal is a multi-dimensional and pioneering world music festival with a unique musical identity. It began in 1999 and has since featured 184 pan-African and international artists from 29 countries during its lifetime, as well as approximately 650 South African artists. A musical festival and celebration of all things African, it’s a place for you to enjoy Africa's musical diversity on 26 and 27 April 2015.

Awesome Africa has had a rich history of unique collaborations over the last 14 years, and this year is no different. On Sunday 26 April, there will be a Gala Concert at The Playhouse in Durban from 5pm featuring a host of stars from all corners of the continent: Salif Keita (Mali), Khuli Chana & MuzArt (SA), ‘The Freedom Suite’ with Ray Phiri, N’Faly Kouyate (Guinea), The Drummers of Burundi (Burundi) and Christine Salem (Reunion), Guy Buttery & Nibs van der Spuy, Qadasi & Maqhinga Radebe, Pride of the Zulu and local guitar legends Steve Fataar & Errol Dyers.

On Monday 27 April, a series of Music Talks & Business Sessions will take place at Sibusisiwe Hall in Mandeni, north of Durban, from 11am to 2pm on the following topics: Introduction to the Music Industry; Performing Platforms & Funding Opportunities; Contracts & Copyrights; Studio Etiquette & the Value of Quality Sound; and The Digital Freeway.

After the business workshops, there will be live performances from 2-9pm from the likes of Ray Phiri, N’Faly Kouyate (Guinea), The Drummers of Burundi (Burundi) and Christine Salem (Reunion), Napalma (Mozambique/Brazil), Uhuru Poets Society, Siyanda Maphumulo, DJ Websta, Amasokemvelo, Mandeni Soul Healers, Central Voices, Existing Conciousness, Ndwandwe Sisters, Ukujabula Kuyashiyana, Kalaka ft. Keeran Eshwarlall, Sgora, GS and Holly.
