Artists for Peace

Bio

Artists for peace was established in April 2007 when a group of popular Sierra Leonean musicians joined forces, to use their voices and fame to campaign for peace in lieu of the country's 2007 P-artiamentary and presidential Election.

Gaining the support of the United Nations Development programme (UNDP), the 'Go Vote! No Violence' campaign gained momemtum and force as the artists embanked on a nationwide tour of Sierra Leone, preaching messages of non-violence and tolerance to youths across the country.

The campaign was a huge success and gained national and international recognition as one of the factors for consolidating peace at that time. Further support was given by the UN in the run up to the Local Council Elections in 2008. Which saw the group back on the road.

this time the artists' campaign aimed to increase participation of eligible voters, particularly youths, women and the physically challenged, in electorial activities. It promoted conflict prevention through music and drama, to educate, inform and persuade citizens from engaging in violence before, during and after the Local Elections.
