BLK JKS

Bio

Joburg-based alternative rock band made up of Mpumi Mcata (guitar), Molefi Makananise (bass) and Tshepang Ramoba (drums). Formed in 2000, the band immediately turned heads with their experimental sound that drew on a complex range of influences, unlike anything heard in South Africa before. After years spend touring the country, they were signed by American label Secretly Canadian, opening the band to a global audience and quickly becoming darlings of the international music press.

In 2009 they released the EP 'Mystery', record at Electric Ladyland studios in New York. It was soon followed by their debut full-length album 'After Robots', also recorded in the US, this time in Indiana. In 2010 the band performed alongside Alicia Keys at the Fifa World Cup Celebration Concert. That year they released 'Zol!', a mini-album that further enforced the band’s status as leaders of intelligent, proudly African yet internationally accessible rock music. Following the departure of frontman Lindani Buthelezi, the band continue to tour and perform regularly, now with an expanded lineup.
